Chicago’s pinnacle research library the Newberry is endlessly teeming with activity, information, and history. A century-old institution where you can find rare items you’ve never seen anywhere else.

I worked with a team to design their new identity system, the first part of a multi-year collaboration. The evolution required using a logo engraved into the cornerstones of the building, while modernizing and simplifying their methods of communication.

The logo inspired an icon device that could format layout grids while symbolically representing a bookmark, arrow head, and message bubble.
